The Port Douglas Daintree region is Australia’s most tropical and most green, in colour and attitude! It’s a place of exceptional natural beauty where ancient rainforests and a world class marine park, beaches, waterholes and vast national parks are all intertwined in a complex ecosystem that make up two World Heritage listed areas - the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
As a forward thinking, dynamic region in its approach to sustainable tourism, the Douglas Shire Council and the area’s 12,000 residents have introduced environmental and sustainability practices on a unique scale. Inspired by local Ecotourism Australia-certified champions and driven by the Douglas Shire Council, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree and Ecotourism Australia, the Port Douglas and Daintree region is Australia’s first to achieve ECO Destination Certification.
