Mossman Gorge

135 million years in the making, visiting Mossman Gorge is like sitting in the lap of Mother Nature.

Mossman Gorge is a 56,000 hectare area within the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park and is best known for its spellbinding beauty. Tree-clad mountains rise sharply from the riverbanks of the Mossman Gorge and set the scene at the spectacular entrance to Daintree National Park. This is the spot where crystal-clear waters tumble over ancient granite boulders and the Kuku Yalanji people happily share their culture, stories and legends through Dreamtime walks and tours.

Just 20 minutes north of Port Douglas, this lush tropical rainforest is an extraordinary spot to swim and explore for locals and tourists alike. From the Mossman Gorge Centre, catch the courtesy bus to the Gorge entrance. Take an easy 10 minute stroll along the elevated boardwalk that meanders through the lower rainforest canopy and return along the riverside track, enjoying views from several small lookouts along the way. Be amazed by bright butterflies and look closely for well-camouflaged Boyd's Forest Dragons clinging to tree trunks. More adventurous visitors can cross the Rex Creek suspension bridge and enjoy the 2.4 kilometre Rainforest circuit track through lush rainforest.

With its crystal clear rock pools and breathtaking tropical surroundings, submerging yourself in the clear crisp water will have you feeling reinvigorated and refreshed like never before, and an experience you will find hard to forget.

Connect with the wonder of an ancient rainforest and the world’s oldest living culture. When visiting the region, plan the Mossman Gorge trip that best suits you. Sign up to our newsletter here for all the up-to-date local information and holiday deals in Kuku Yalanji country.
